Hand carved and hand printed Irish Shilling coin Lino PrintThe animal chosen for the Irish shilling is a bull.
This design was in circulation in Ireland from 1928 - 1969.
Each one of my Lino prints are printed by hand and are not digital copies.
Due to the handmade nature of Lino printing each print will be subtly different and may have very slight variations to the image shown.
This Lino print is printed on high quality textured ‘Lokta’ handmade paper from Nepal using Professional ‘Speedball’ block printing ink.
The photos shown give an accurate representation of the product, I have tried to capture the true color of the paper and of the ink, but please be aware that paint density can vary slightly and paper tone/shade can vary batch to batch.
The size of this Lino print is approximately 23cm x 23cm.
This listing is for an unframed piece, framed images are for display purposes only.
For most of my prints I use black ink, I can however print in many different colors at request.
All prints come packaged inside a clear protective sleeve on a card backing board.
When delivering I try to recycle whenever I can so please excuse any packaging that looks reused or repurposed.

Linocut is a printmaking technique, in which a sheet of linoleum is used as the relief surface. First, I develop a design by sketching usually from a photograph and then carve it onto the linoleum surface with a V-shaped chisel, the raised uncarved areas represent a mirror image of the desired printed image. Once carved, the linoleum sheet is inked with a roller, and then pressed onto handmade paper to create the final image.
In print making linoleum was considered a cheap alternative to wood but due to its ease of carving and lack of grain its popularity grew in the early 1900s.
